BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES – children
Next Steps
Next Steps was designed to help parents who are in a residential, outpatient or other substance abuse recovery program develop their parenting skills and create a more stable and balanced family life. Staff provide training and support for the parent and child for up to 18 months either in the home or at a location in the community. A therapist and family partner work with the parent to help solve relevant problems that respect the person as an individual and his/her culture.

New
Beginnings
New Beginnings is an intensive early intervention program for children from birth to 6 years with significant social-emotional or behavioral problems and would most benefit from a structured program with close staff supervision. Staff work with families to help children develop internal coping strategies and use socially appropriate behavior. This program uses the expertise of licensed clinical social workers and mental health therapists so that each child will be able to transition to a preschool and/or kindergarten with their typically-developing peers.

Wraparound Services are designed for families on Medi-Cal with children ages 0 – 6 years who are at risk of or who have developmental delays, severe behavioral and/or emotional difficulties, and mental health needs. The team for each family can include licensed clinical social workers, therapists, mental health teachers and family partners to address the specific needs of the child and family. The team creates goals based on the strengths of the family and meeting immediate needs for the child. Through regular meetings, progress is evaluated and needed changes made to the family plan.

Solutions
Child Care Solutions is designed to be a resource for preschool professionals when they notice a child who may be angry/aggressive, overly shy, unable to play with peers, delayed in development, recovering from a traumatic experience and, with the consent of parents, seek the support of a mental health consultant. The mental health consultant will then provide on-site training for preschool staff, in-home counseling for the family, make referrals to community resources and follow the child’s progress as needed. The goal for Child Care Solutions is to find positive interventions that can be used in the preschool setting and that can be reinforced in the home.
